our space
a physical therapy space for womenÂ
Our Space is a women's health physical therapy practice serving Eastern Connecticut, dedicated to providing individualized musculoskeletal care for women navigating the changes surrounding pregnancy, postpartum, motherhood and womanhood. Our bodies are wildly intuitive and incredibly resilient, but whether it’s your first pregnancy, a repeat journey through the postpartum period or you’re facing new or worsening physical and functional challenges, it’s ok for our bodies to need a little support.
Our Space is dedicated to establishing a continuum of care to support your body through the perinatal period and beyond with individualized support for musculoskeletal pain and dysfunction. I come to you, which means we work in your home environment to find movement solutions that fit into your daily routine.
We begin with an initial phone/zoom consultation to talk about what you’re looking for and whether physical therapy may be able to help. After that, we set up your 90-minute initial evaluation where we discuss anything and everything related to your body and your PT goals, and begin to develop your personalized plan of care. After the initial evaluation, one 60-minute visit per week is typically enough to get started, but we may choose to work together more or less frequently based on your needs and your goals.

why physical therapy?
"My upper back is sore from propping both of us in this rocking chair for 45 minutes every 2 hours."

"When will I be able to stop using these panty liners for unexpected leaks?"

"When will movement and exercising start to feel normal again?"

These are just a few of the challenges I encountered frequently as a new mom. Not wanting to cause a fuss, I didn’t talk about any of these at my 6-week follow-up, but they were issues that progressively got worse the more tired I got. And I’m not alone! There are many challenges that we may face during pregnancy, postpartum and even in the months and years beyond including:

pelvic pain

low / mid / upper back pain

wrist / elbow / shoulder pain

knee/hip pain

diastases recti

incontinence

constipation

scar management

Many of these may resolve all on their own. But, if they aren’t getting better, physical therapy may be able to help. With your permission, I will work in conjunction with your OB-GYN, PCP, midwife, doula, and anyone else on your team to contribute to a holistic approach to you and to your treatment plan.
